Karin Krog

Biography:
Karin Krog was born on 15th May, 1937 in Oslo, Norway. Although she had already worked extensively in Scandinavia with players such as Jan Garbarek and Arild Andersen, vocalist Krog's first impact on the international jazz scene came in 1964 with her appearance at the Antibes Jazz Festival. She subsequently toured Europe and the USA, frequently working with some of the more progressive musicians.

In the late 60s she performed, and sometimes recorded, with Don Ellis and Clare Fischer and during the following decade
she extended her reputation through sessions with Warne Marsh, Dexter Gordon, Archie Shepp , Red Mitchell and Bengt Hallberg. In the 80s and 90s she recorded and toured with John Surman, with whom she had first performed in the early 70s.

An effortless singer, with a good vocal range and excellent taste in material, Krog's penchant for more modern music has
tended to restrict her popularity to the hardcore jazz audience, although her repertoire does incorporate the sophisticated songs of Dave Frishberg alongside standards and jazz classics. By the mid-80s her repertoire had extended still further to encompass African click rhythms and Indian Alap
music, which she performs with absolute confidence and considerable charm.

She is also an experienced television producer and has made several programmes on jazz, which have been broadcast in Norway.
